Adult Teaching Qualifications

Education
There is no accrediting or certifying body for most adult teaching positions and no specific educational requirements aside from being an expert in your field. If you're going to teach cooking you should probably have a culinary degree and if you're going to training adults to do their own taxes you should probably have a degree in accounting. Formal teaching credentials are of course a big help in becoming qualified for an adult teaching job but not necessary.

Abilities
It is important for any teacher to have excellent organizational and communication skills. Good teachers are compassionate, dedicated, and patient.

Experience
Experience is the essential qualification for adult teaching. Most organizations will only consider adult teacher applicants who have a number of years of experience in their discipline and have demonstrated a high level of expertise in their field. Adult teaching can also be a great option for current or retired teachers looking for extra work during the summer, on weekends, or evenings.
